Whats Opening

How WhatsOpening Works

WhatsOpening is a database, not a publication. We monitor local reporting, corporate newsrooms and government planning records, extract the facts they contain, and maintain a permanent record for each location as those facts change over time.

Where information comes from

Every entry cites the reporting behind it. We monitor a reviewed network of sources and rank them in three tiers: primary sources such as company announcements and government planning records; trusted publications, meaning established local, national and trade journalism; and other sources, which carry the least weight when accounts differ. See the sources we monitor.

When sources disagree

They frequently do. One outlet reports a spring opening, another reports September. We keep both accounts permanently and display the one better supported by source authority, recency, specificity and corroboration. Nothing is discarded, and genuinely contested facts are reviewed by a person before the record changes.

What we don’t do

We don’t guess. If an exact address hasn’t been announced, the record says so rather than placing a pin at the centre of town. If an opening is described as “summer 2027”, it stays summer 2027 and does not become a specific day. Unknown means unknown.

We also don’t republish articles. We record the facts a report contains, link to the original, and send readers there.

Corrections

Plans change, and reporting is sometimes wrong. If a record here is inaccurate, write to corrections@whatsopening.com with a source and we’ll review it.
